Losing Identity By Pushkar Raj Sharma

Delhi-based photographer Pushkar Raj Sharma’s interest for street photography began in 2014 when he discovered the book titled “Street Photography Now’. Fascinated by the works of different photographers, he always wanted to meet one of them some day.

In April 2014, Pushkar had the possibility to make an appointment with Bangkok-based photographer Maciej Dakowicz for 10 days in Mumbai, India, where he found his inspiration for his series titled “Losing Identity”. The result is a collection of funny and random moments, capturing people in the streets of Old Delhi appearing to be masked, hidden, or without identity. These images depict daily scenes of people at the Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi, one of the most crowded places in India. Shot over a period of a year, this project is a metaphorical illustration of that loss and identity crisis. The pictures appear to be funny, sad, confusing and enriching, capturing the chaos unfolding on the indian streets. In today’s digital world, everyone is a photographer, but at the same time our uniqueness becomes more and more eroded, so we lose our individuality and our own identity.
