Fleeting Portraits Of The Body In Nature By Frédéric Fontenoy

Scroll

In his 1989 series ‘Metamorphosis’, French photographer Frédéric Fontenoy captures fleeting portraits of the body in nature.

“[I was] trying to create a pre-human form in landscape without any trace of humanity…”Using a panoramic camera, Fontenoy created images that depict distorted nude bodies in the nature, inspired by the works of French photographer Hans Bellmer. To this day, the photographer specializes in the portrayal of the human body.

Speaking about the idea and the process behind the photographs, Fontenoy says: “Most of the photos are ‘self-portraits’. It was like dancing, 2-3 seconds in front of the camera, trying to create a pre-human form in landscape without any trace of humanity…”
