When picturing the Wild West, images of pastel-hued horizons and diamante encrusted hands might not be your first thought. Yet, through Leeor Wild’s intimate lens, the West Coast’s barren landscapes are depicted as surreal scenes – juxtaposed against the intricacies of the human form.
Similarly to Leeor’s ‘Southern States’ series, the ‘Wild West’ images were captured on her travels through the American desert and abstractly depict the vastness of the stretching plains. Through an intriguing exploration of color, texture, and composition, both series subvert stereotypes surrounding the harshness of the desert, portraying the setting as cemented in a state of serenity. The relationship between nature and humanity is explored, with contours of the female silhouette complemented by ripples in the sand and mirrored in the details of rigid rock formations.
