A Vanity Set Inspired By Russian Folk Art

Scroll

Saint Petersburg-based designer Yaroslav Misonzhnikov created the ‘Katerina’ vanity set in the style of Russian folk art.

Consisting of a mirror, a comb and the folding lace fan inspired by the fan gifted to Russian Empress Mariya Fedorovna in 1883. The intricate, geometric lace pattern contrasts sharply with the smooth, minimal form of the fan. Speaking about the inspiration behind his work, Misonzhnikov says, “My collection is dedicated to my granny, who lived in Vologda. When I was a little boy she used to tell me stories about her home there, a big Russian ‘izba’, and about her mum, who was always making ‘a lace’.” For more design objects, take a look through our shop.
