A Minimal Home With A Single Wall By Christian Kerez

Words

Swiss architect Christian Kerez created a family home featuring a single wall dividing the building in half and creating two distinct living spaces.Although it appears narrow from the outside, the house is spacious and open plan, with only the bathroom sectioned off. A cascading staircase further creates a sense of expanse. Speaking of the design philosophy behind the project, the architects say, “The simplicity of the concept, the reduction of the architecture to a single element, creates substantial dependence and, in turn, makes the building very complex. It is only through that dependence that the wall acquires a compelling and cogent character although, in itself, it can follow any chosen course.”
