On London’s Bruton Street in the iconic Mayfair district, the abstract and minimal new flagship boutique for French luxury fashion house Maison Margiela has been realized; the physical store itself reflects the brand’s signature deconstructed designs.
The interior concept was conceived of by Dutch architect Studio Anne Holtrop, who cleverly emulated the visual language established at the house by current creative director John Galliano. Inside the store, familiar shapes skew in form, as they lean and fold around the demarcation of the space, drawing on ideas of the Maison Margiela aesthetic. Gypsum partition walls and columns have been cast in textile moulds to appear as detached objects, which are finished in a natural pale color palette that looks almost like fabric, complimenting the travertine floors and fixtures. “The store evokes the notion of an irreproducible hand-spun tactility, encouraging the human touch that created it,” explains a statement from the firm. 190 square meters of space displays Maison Margiela’s Co-Ed collections, alongside the ready-to-wear men’s and women’s collections and accessories.
