Positive Biology By Marie Tomanova

Words

In her series titled ‘Positive Biology’, Czech born and Brooklyn based photographer Marie Tomanova focuses on the nature of identity, gender, displacement and sexuality.

Combining portraits and self-portraiture, the artist creates pictures with a hint of naiveté and raw honesty. Her series shows photographs of a red lipstick between pointed toes, a naked woman hiking through the snow and a bottom behind a shower curtain. Tomanova has many sweet memories connected to the photo ‘Jeans Jacket’ which she took in Northern California. For her project she lived in a trailer in the middle of Redwoods which she perceived as a magical place with deers, wild boars and a sky full of stars. The artist has shown her work at solo and group exhibitions at A.I.R. Gallery in New York, OTGF in Los Angeles and many others.
