A Meditation On Childhood Memories By Marietta Varga
In her series ‘Behind Me’, Hungarian photographer Marietta Varga reflects on a childhood long past through subtly composed images.
“Our childhood memories and happenings, forgotten but deeply saved inside, become a part of us forever.” The photographs create a calm atmosphere, in which it seems that the photographer and her younger self are in the same room, facing each other or looking in the same direction.
In a statement about the series, Varga says: “Our childhood memories and happenings, forgotten but deeply saved inside, become a part of us forever. Things we did not care about or simply refused to care, affect our everyday lives, and then (it comes to the point when) we have to face ourselves. Seeking ways, recognition, understanding.”
