Hamburg, a harbour city in northern Germany, is soon to gain a new cultural landmark designed by the celebrated architecture practice Herzog & de Meuron.

Located on the banks of the river Elbe, the Elbphilharmonie is a huge modern complex featuring three world-class concert halls, a hotel, 45 private apartments and a public viewing area. Its doors are set to open for the first time in January 2017. Not only a huge architectural enterprise, the philharmonic also includes what is currently one of the most exciting structural projects in Europe: a world-class concert hall that is detached from the rest of the building for soundproofing reasons. Situated at a height of 50 metres above ground level in a unique location in Hamburg’s historic port, and with seating for 2,100 people, the Elbphilharmonie is going to be a unique building offering the visitors the possibility to experience both space and music.
