A Fictional World Made From Paper By Artist Charles Clary

Scroll

For his latest work, artist Charles Clary created colorful paper installations using drywall and wallpaper.

Clary layers meticulously cut sheets of paper embedded in the drywall’s openings, providing a textured contrast to the ‘millefleur’ wallpaper. After originally studying painting, Clary specialized in paper sculptures that play with perception. Living and working in Conway, South Carolina, his artworks are exhibited throughout the States.

In a statement about his work, the artist says: “I use paper to create a world of fiction that challenges the viewer to suspend disbelief and venture into my fabricated reality. By layering paper I am able to build intriguing land formations that mimic viral colonies and concentric sound waves.”
