The ‘Chabanel’ is a Brutalist-inspired furniture collection by Foraine, the minimal furniture design studio founded by Montreal-based architecture firm Atelier Barda.

The collection consists of a lounge chair and five-legged coffee table, both made from “high-performance concrete.” As much sculptural statements as they are furniture pieces, the Brutalist-inspired designs play on material imperfections. Both the coffee table and the chair contrast cylindrical legs with the thin, flat volumes that make up both the backrest of the chair and tabletop. “Until now, the prototypes were produced in small series for a specific project in the fashion industry,” explains the studio. Much of the studio’s work is influenced by the Brutalist architecture movement, and they aim to freely explore “uses and materials to create clean-lined, timeless pieces.”
