With a title not dissimilar to that of Shakespeare play set beneath the moon, the latest series from Parisian photographer Anne-Sophie Soudoplatoff plays with ideas of the nocturnal and the illuminative power of light.
In ‘A Midsummer’s Dream’ she wrestles with different lights elegantly, from bodies shifting in and out of water, to landscapes dipped in darkness. For Soudoplatoff, sun and moonlight each have revelatory powers — unveiling the truest parts of people and of places. When editing the series, she drew out latent elements of each image, juxtaposing them to create a narrative that extends beyond the frame of her photographs.
