‘Lightthing’ by Heiko Blankenstein

Words

Zurich based artist Heiko Blankenstein has a focus on extra-terrestrial landscapes, galactic phenomena and the efforts of scientifically explaining them. Titled “Lightthing”, his art project was exhibited in 2015 as part of the artist’s “Kicked it into the Sun” solo show at Kunstraum Engländerbau in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. Priorly designed in computer rendering, the styrofoam landscape centerpiece of the exhibition and the integrated, glistening sculpture appear highly artificial to the used materials. Heiko Blankenstein`s installation is based on physical and chemical formal principles of the universe. He takes this scientific visual vocabulary as a point of departure, and converts it into an artistic sphere using similar methods.
