Katharina Grosse Fills An Abandoned Space With Color

Words

Known for her colorful interventions, German artist Katharina Grosse used as a canvas an abandoned aquatics building in Rockaway, NY. Having experienced the devastating aftermath of hurricane Sandy in 2012, the area is used nowadays as a public park. In collaboration with MoMA PS1, Grosse turned the abandoned building, set to be demolished in late 2016, into a monumental piece of art, giving it a momentary beauty before it completely disappears.
