Marta Penter is an artist based in Porto Alegre, south of Brazil. She is deeply interested in human connections, and particularly in the idea of intimacy; she chooses her subjects with an anthropological eye. In her paintings, subtle expressions of body language convey entire personal histories and relationships.
As to why she makes her paintings so enormous, Penter says: “When you have a large image, it causes you to become a part of the painting much quicker than if it were to be smaller.” This tactic is especially valuable for a series like this one that focuses on the theme of intimacy.
