Our Insta Fav of the week is Amanda Kusai, a young designer from Indonesia, currently living in Jakarta. Her images are clean and simple while they always carry a certain irony that is breaking with the clean set-up, making us smile. We especially enjoy her creative interpretation of everyday objects ans sceneries. You can get to know the young talent in the following Q&A. Enjoy.
Where are you from? How does that place influence the way you photograph?
I am from Indonesia, but I’ve spent most of my life moving around quite a lot, from different cities and suburbs to countries.
I think a lot of my influences come from the various people I meet and engage in deep conversations with. Right now I am living in Jakarta and the hectic urban life associated with this city inspires me to search for solidarity and tranquility amidst the chaos, I interpret this with clean compositions and negative space, I also have a thing for quirkiness.
What are your favorite environments to shoot in?
A quite one.
What are the strengths of shooting primarily mobile? How does this affect your imagery?
How does this affect your imagery? I like the simplicity and efficiency a mobile device offers, its light, fits in my pocket, no manual settings to fuss over about, just pure moments and being able to appreciate beauty in imperfections.
Who and what are the things that inspire you?
Everday people, books, my dreams at night, the weather, grocery stores, conversations, movies, plants, and pinterest
Tell us a little about your everyday.
I experimentally cook in my free time which im not so good at but I love and enjoy doing. I play with my furry four legged friends. I have an obligatory sense that I have to be home for dinner and have it with my parents whenever possible (even if nobody cooked and there is no food, and instead we end up with take aways or sandwiches). I run a multidisciplinary creative hub with my friend axel. I aspire to develop a passion for good habits, but waking up early is just such a torcher sometimes.
