Montreal-based photographer Dimitri Guedes explores the stylistic potentials of fashion and conceptual photography. Existing somewhere between reality and fantasy, his raw and cinematic images question the surface of representation and our comprehension of the real world.
“I am fascinated by the possibilities of creating an unconventional, atmospheric, visual universe,” the photographer tells IGNANT. Born in Tahiti, the work of Guedes is dreamlike, both in its conception and outcome. His images have a natural bias towards fantasy—played out in the unconscious mind of the photographer, the almost-surreal shots disrupt our perception of reality. “The aim of my work is to create poetic and raw visuals that connect with people. I find this connection with that alternative reality fascinating,” he continues. Through distinctive compositions and uncustomary plays of light and points of view, Guedes establishes a connection to his subjects that is emotional and spontaneous, achieving vivid images in the process. The photographer’s unconventional vision and ongoing experimentation has resulted in the truly electrifying portfolio featured here below.
