For the Ariake Collection, the eponymous studio of Tokyo designer Keiji Ashizawa has designed the ‘Raft Sofa’: a furniture piece that merges Japanese handcraft with contemporary luxury.

Drawing from a desire to “maximize the potential of each material and its function”, Ashizawa has designed a minimalist sofa that foregoes neither comfort nor style. The two-seater ‘Raft Sofa’ features an extended volume at one end that can be either a third cushioned seat or a coffee table. The Ariake Collection of which it was a part, launched at the Fenix Palace during Stockholm Design Week 2019. Alongside Ashizawa, the exhibition featured pieces by Norm Architects, Staffan Holm, and Anderssen & Voll.
