Presented at this year’s Salone del Mobile design week in Milan, ‘Built By All’ by MINI LIVING and London-based design firm Studiomama was a colorful installation that proposed a collective reimagination of future living in urban spaces.
We live in an increasingly urbanized world: as space decreases and people move to city centers, what does future living look like? ‘Built By All’ proposed a practical answer to this question by illustrating the necessity of community involvement in city planning. The installation required engagement from its visitors, whether through wandering through the color-blocked micro-neighborhood, or by creating models
of living spaces on the customizable totems that were then displayed in the space. Explaining the premise behindthe installation, Oke Hauser, the creative lead of MINI LIVING, said: “Today’s standardized housing market is limited in its ability to meet the requirements of the individual…. our installation turns people into active creators and puts them back at the heart of the design process. We believe the quality of a living space is determined by how well the residents identify with their home.”All images © MINI LIVING
