Living and working in London, Cian Oba-Smith creates soft-colored documentary photographs revealing life in northern part of England’s capital.
In his project, Oba-Smith focuses on The Andover & Six Acres estates, which were known as hotbeds for drugs, violence and prostitution throughout 80’s and 90’s. The stigma surrounding the district is still evident today. Exploring the residents and their surrounding, the photographer aims at uncovering the present day reality of the estates. Oba-Smith’s documentation comprises not only candid portraits, though – he catches light with a poetic sensibility, somehow managing to capture dreamy landscapes of a not-so-dreamy place.
