For the collection ‘Marquetry: the sleeping beauty’, Paris-based design studio Ymer&Malta teamed up with designer Benjamin Graindorge to create a line of wooden products exploring the ancient craft of marquetry. The technique involved using various hand-cut wooden veneers to create unique patterns in a piece. The furniture series includes a bench, table as well as a cabinet. On the inspiration behind reinterpreting the century-old technique for the collection, the designers say: “[It was] a challenge because in the twentieth century, only art nouveau and art deco offered an approach to their own time to the cabinet.”
