A Customizable Grid Table By Ying Chang
- Charmaine Li
London-based designer Ying Chang developed a modular grid table system that can be customized to the user’s preferences. Essentially, the desk consists of a base metal frame that holds up mesh boxes and translucent volumes that can be grouped and rotated into different arrangements depending on the environment.
In a statement about the piece, Chang says: “The unconventional form deviates from convention by introducing unfamiliar patterns of usability, which require the user to readjust their expectations and invoke encounters to find a way to relate to them in a personal and unique way.”
