Wooden Light Bulb
- Anke Nunheim
The lamp of Ryosuke Fukusada is created to achieve a mix of modern design and traditional craft technique, in contrast to the rise of mass production. Focusing on the traditional ‘Rokuro’ technique he connects this tradition with a modern LED device thus the wooden light bulb was born. This object gives the impression like solid wood radiates light. In fact the LED device is wrapped by a wooden shell chipped until minimum thickness and the socket is done by aluminum which suits wood with modern impression. This lamp has a new attraction by means of using the traditional craft technique and open up the new value of it. This project was awarded with the ‘Kyoto renaissance design competition’ and still under development. We hope that this beautiful lamp will go in production.
