Ars Electronica

Last week media art center Ars Electronica and Volkswagen Automobil Forum opened an exhibition with artworks exploring ‘impulse and movement’. Twelve exhibits as well as six video contributions of artists from Europe, US and Japan are on display until 16th of September in the Volkswagen Automobil Forum Unter den Linden, Berlin.

The artworks question the relation of self-determination and heteronomy. Like what is the impact of real or fictional barriers in a process of movement? Are they distracting us or do they just lead into an other direction? What is the relation of path and goal? Most of the exhibits are interactive, they involve the visitor directly and have stunning effects. As for example the parkour-video of artist group Democracia. They take possession of the urban landscape by always taking the direct path from A to B and get over potential barriers in a rather acrobatic manner.
