Other-Worldly Architectural Photography by Filip Dujardin

Scroll

Belgian photographer Filip Dujardin uses digital collage techniques to combine and distort photographs of real buildings in and around his home town of Ghent.

His multiple series of illusory photographs depict impractical and sometimes structurally absurd buildings. The photographer manipulates and rearranges real images of contemporary buildings, which is what gives them their plausibility. Yet if the viewer double takes, they notice the impossibility of each structure. Dujardin’s other-wordly imagery pays homage to Belgian surrealist artist René Magritte’s thought-provoking images, and Belgium’s brutalist architectural history. The maze-like buildings created by Dujardin are both bleak and entrancing, and highlight the eager endeavors of modern design and development—whilst also drawing attention to their occasional impracticality.
