A Mountain Stage For Songhua Lake, China

Beijing-based META-Project was commissioned to design a viewing platform for the Songhua Lake Resort; a luscious nature reserve in the warmer months, and a ski-lodge in the winter. The structure blends rough materiality with more sensuous forms: at a distance, the platform appears to float above the snowscape. It’s charred cedar shingles creating a dark mass against the white of the mountain. Once inside, red cedar wood paneling reflects the sunshine, creating a luminous space, rich with colored warmth. The lines of the paneling are mimicked by the wood-grain impressions in the cast-concrete sections of the building.
