The legendary documentary photographer Martin Parr has been announced to be the next recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Photography title, given by the The World Photography Organisation.

One of the best-known documentary photographers of his generation, Parr is known for capturing the absurd of the everyday scenes in a bold and direct way. In his work, he often focuses on the themes of leisure, consumption and communication. The British photographer will collect his title at 2017 Sony World Photography Awards ceremony held in London on Thursday 20th April. “It is a great honour to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Photography title, especially knowing the illustrious previous recipients such as William Klein and William Eggleston,” he says. To celebrate the award, the photographer will give a special talk about his work.
