Embroidered Subversive Collages By Artist Jose Romussi
- Words
- Jessica Jungbauer
Chilean artist Jose Romussi creates intricate collages using embroidery. In his latest series ‘#Anti-Serie‘, the images feature fashion portraits that look like they’ve been scribbled over with markers at first glance. In reality, the words and drawings were woven in with multi-colored thread, which is Romussi’s prefered medium “to merge different time spaces”. In a statement about his art, Romussi says: “I intervene images by applying my own perception of beauty to them. Sometimes by giving them a new identity or a different aesthetic concept, it’s a chance to give this image a new emotion, a new life, a new interpretation of beauty through embroidering.” We’ve published a series of his other works previously.
