Ciclotrama, A Rope Installation That Displays Interconnectedness

Words

Artist Janaina Mello Landini of mello+landini creates rope installations as physical maps, a social cartography of individual networks.

The ‘Ciclotramas’ maps an assortment of paths, movements, and fluxes. The site specific artwork was recently displayed at Zipper Galeria in São Paolo, Brazil as item No. 20 of the ongoing series. Each one of the installations consist of threads and strings. The unwoven strands seem like plant roots or the inner body and mind. The artist’s work displays the interconnectedness and interdependence of people and society: “In closer look, it presents a very defined order between individual entities and their respective ties.”
