Reflections of ma

Eva Tsagaraki is studying sculpture and multimedia at the Fine Arts School of Athens at the 4th year. Eva’s interest is to capture the instant pause between two movements, known ‘ma’ in Japanese. Eva came across with this space of emptiness through her practice in Butoh dance. The photos are the recording of this experience, namely the flow of energy she experiences with body movement.

It is like synchronizing sensitive chords which detect micro movement with the button of the camera. The click is happening the moment she perceives as ‘ma’. She is particularly interested in photography’s ability to make this space visible.
