Michelle Elie, Collector Of Comme des Garçons

Words

Since 1998, Haitian-born, New York-raised and Cologne-based accessories designer Michelle Elie has been collecting – and wearing – Comme des Garçons. Starting with her first investment piece – a ‘form of the tumour’ dress from the ‘Body Meets Dress, Dress Meets Body’ collection – Elie has been incorporating Rei Kawakubo’s creations into her life, and now adds one new piece to her collection per season. Paris-based photographer Julien T Hamon recently visited the collector in her home for AnOther Magazine, capturing some of her favorite looks. Speaking of her fascination with the Comme universe that has collided with her own, Elie states, “It has to do with something unspoken about these pieces, something that generates a poetry which, whether you like it or not, you cannot stop looking at.”
