Spontaneous City

Words

Spontaneous City is a series of interventions in London’s urban green spaces by artist duo Bruce Gilchrist and Jo Joelson together known as London Fieldworks, a metaphorical interplay between the condition of the animal and the human and their enfolded habitats.

The artworks are open to occupation by wildlife and can be read as an allegory of population crash and dwindling biodiversity of birds and insects alongside global concerns about megacities and peri-urbanisation, fluid populations and porous borders.
