Zadok Ben-David

Words

In the manner of 19th Century Victorian encyclopaedias the London based artist Zadok Ben-David creates his large and impressive works. 20,000 petit steel cut plant sculptures arise out of a thin layer of sand creating a perfect rectangular installation, that asks the viewer to circumambulate the room. Painted black on one side and in color on the other, the installation gradually and miraculously, comes ablaze with colour whilst circeling. The work reflects over notions such as perception and perspective, and in its delicate modesty the installation brings up powerful questions regarding life and death. Blackfields is a kind of ‘psychological installation very moody, developing and changing while you walk along. It has also black and colour, symbolising state of mind, leaving a choice by showing both side of the coins.’
