Bjørn van den Berg’s Everyday Objects Explore Sensibility and Tactility

Words

Norwegian designer Bjørn van den Berg imbues everyday items with sensibility and tactility. Inspired by the metaphor of a glowing object, the bases of his hemispherical “Aura” mirrors were electroplated with copper, chrome and nickel, making the entire shape reflective. The idea for van den Berg’s overlapping porcelain “Plateau” trays arose from a need to stack trays so as to fit on his small dining table during a dinner party with friends. van den Berg aims to enhance the durability of his designs by appealing to emotion, so that an attachment may be formed between the piece and its user.
