The collection of pleated handwoven textiles, leather and japanese paper is an homage to traditional pleating methods while working with local pleating manufacture. Using materials such are hand spun linen, raw silk, paper and leather – it is an investigation in changing characteristics of these materials. Paper becomes spacious, handwoven textiles are reminiscent of metal, leather keeps its strenght while becomes pliable. Folded by hands in paper moulds (some of which are more than hundred years old), then put in a vapour oven for fixing the pleats by steam and high temperature. Finally, material is delicately removed from the mould. Project Pleats is based on the potential of material, the interaction of color, rhythm, light and structure.
