European market leader in neon design and production, Sygns, established its new brand Kiën. The first product “Licht1“ was introduced on IFA TecWatch in September. Now Kien is eager to enter the smart home market.
The lamp “Licht1“ combines traditional handcraft with puristic design and technical expertise. Every light is handcrafted in Germany by manufacturers that specialize in 3D printing and laser cutting. Concerning the appearance, customers can personalize the design individually by choosing out of three materials: aluminum, concrete and wood. “Licht1“ also comes in three different sizes, 60, 100 and 140 cm.
While this functional design piece resembles a traditional fluorescent tube, its inner workings are astonishing. With support of experts from Google, Fraunhofer Institute and Technical University of Berlin, Kiën created a design piece that fits into new technological dimensions. Through a native app compatible with the latest smart home devices you can control the intensity of light depending on your needs. Besides brightness the app manages settings and changes in color hues as well. Consumers can either regulate a single lamp or even groups of lamps at the same time. Kiën’s aim is to provide a natural daylight cycle. ”We set out to produce functional and healthy work light for customers that have an affinity for design as well as technology”, explains the product designer Markus Mai.
The company plans to soon launch a campaign on Kickstarter. Kiën wants to use crowdfunding not only as a marketing tool, but also as a development and feedback channel.
