Barcelona By Jordi Casañas

Jordi Casañas works as a documentary photographer for several public and private entities. His photographs emerge from a preconceived idea that is transformed by chance.

They are conceptually premeditated but formally random images, in which hazard plays a significant role. This Barcelona series shows urban scenes where the protagonists are only photographed from the back, so their faces cannot be seen. Although they are shown from behind or obscured by bushes or other people, we are never able to recognize their faces. These motifs refer to the anonymity within the busy city life. In these photographs, Jordi Casañas looks for what Roland Barthes called the “punctum”, a detail that becomes intimate, that attracts us, and leaves us restless. Above all, the punctum serves the attraction that urges us to reflect on the image. This perceptive street photography series was selected as a finalist in the LensCulture Street Photography Awards 2016.
