Snøhetta Designs A House With Solar Panels

Scroll
Words

Situated in Larvik, Norway, The Plus House is a pilot project of a family house that truly stands out of the ordinary.

The house is a result of a collaboration between the architecture and design studio Snøhetta and few other Norwegian firms. By optimizing architectural qualities and technological solutions, the house serves both the living and energy needs of a family house, in addition to generating enough energy surpluses to power an electric car year-round. The solar panels and collectors are built in the sloping roof, which tilts towards southeast in the garden. This, along with geothermal energy from energy wells in the ground, provide the energy needed of the house. However, while the energy demands were at the center of the project, the architects focused on retaining home-like qualities, providing the emotive comfort and a sense of well-being to its inhabitants.
