Moving Light Paintings By Lucea Spinelli

Words

Photographer Lucea Spinelli creates moving light paintings using the technique of long exposure for her series ‘Phōtosgraphé‘. According to the photographer, the light in the images functions like “paint on a brush” with film as the canvas. The imaginative GIFs mostly depict scenes in the urban environment with a playful touch and question the viewer’s perception of reality. Speaking of the inspiration behind the series, Spinelli says: “Photography is the process of drawing with light, as its etymology implies: a compound of the greek words φωτός (phōtos) ‘light’ and γραφή (graphé) ‘representation by means of lines’ or ‘drawing’.”
