Through a Glass Darkly by Nick Turpin

Words

With his series ‘Through a Glass Darkly’ London-based street photographer Nick Turpin highlights the stillness of bus commuters during the cold months. Captured staring out windows and sleeping in their seats, they appear moody and pensive, lost in faraway thoughts as they wait to arrive at their destinations. Their blurred, indistinct outlines invite the viewer to interpret them based on the scenes depicted.

Turpin explains: “These pictures of London Bus passengers in the winter months were made at night from a raised platform with a long lens hand held at 1/40th second, on the limits of what modern camera sensors can record.”
