During the years we’ve found some pretty amazing homes for our architecture collection. Browsing through our page we re-discovered a few tiny homes that are quite special. We enjoy to see how different architects challenge the task to build a narrow home which is still cozy and efficient.

10. THE HEMLOFT


Former Canadian software developer and current carpenter Joel Allen built a unique egg-shaped tree house, The HemLoft. It is located in the woods near Whistler, British Columbia. The exact location of the house is a secret though, because Allen built it on Crown lands – government property – without permission.

9. MINI HOUSE


Visual artist and space designer Michelle de la Vega transformed an old garage into a 250 sq. ft. fully functioning living space with a sleeping loft. The original structure was raised 4 feet, and square footage was added to the original footprint for the bathroom.

8. MOUNTAIN CABIN


With its ashy gray color the ‘Mountain Cabin’ in the Austrian village Laterns is in contrast to both, the lush green meadow during summer time, as well as the white of the winter. With about 87 sqm, the small holiday cottage offers an escape, built to defy the upcoming changes of climate and landscape throughout many generations.

7. PORTABLE MINIMOD


MAPA Architects created MINIMOD which proposes an innovative, intelligent and sustainable alternative of dwelling. Starting from a minimal module, MINIMOD invests in customization, design and sustainability. The production is carried out in a prefabricated manner with a steel frame system technology, which lets the client adapt the space to his needs, choosing among different finishes, as well as automation options.

6. THE EXBURY EGG


The Exbury Egg, is a floating home and research station in one. Artist Stephen Turner, who specializes in long term artistic explorations of environmental settings, has worked with designers of Space Placemaking and Urban Design (SPUD Group) to create the Egg which he will now use as a ‘residency’.

5. PORT-A-BACH


Atelierworkshop Architects created the Port-a-Bach container home. The up-cycling containers can be an effective answer for large scale projects if portability, site access, robustness and security are required.

4. HOUSE UFOGEL IN AUSTRIA


This Austrian house Ufogel is a fully-furnished and functional home set on a hillside overlooking some of the best mountain views in the area. The house blends the comforts of a traditional house with the futurism of contemporary design. It is set on stilts to maximize spectacular views while minimizing the environmental impact of its construction.

3. LE NUAGE


‘Le Nuage’ (The Cloud) is a shelter shaped like a comic-style cloud, summoning the myth of a hut, stimulating the imagination, taking grown-ups back to childhood and creating unforgettable memories for children. Located in France, it offers a unique place of escape and rejuvenation.

2. POD-HOUSE


Swiss design firm ROB GmbH (Robust Outdoor Brands), has come up with a simple low-impact housing solution. Named the POD House, these prefabricated modules create a great sustainable micro home for the garden, a backyard office or even a secret holiday hideaway.

1. SNOW HOUSE


The Milan based Design firm, Santambrogio developed this amazing glass house, which is entirely constructed of light blue, hued glass. Not only the house, but the entire furniture, like the bed, table, bathtub are made out of the same glass. The collection named ‘Simplicity’ was born from a collaboration between Carlo Santambrogio and the designer Ennio Arosio with the aim of giving transparent shape to a precise and essential way of conceiving and living the spaces, while satisfying aesthetic needs.
