Words

Sandra Erbacher’s crossdisciplinary practice includes painting, sculpture, collages and installations, while drawing to visual and formal language of modern architecture, interior design and science. By using this form of language as a kind of metaphor she engages act of translation i.e. the dislocation, fragmentation, and re-contextualization of elementary visual signs, to set in motion a process of multiple geometric abstractions.

‘The investigation of ideological systems and their inevitable breakdown is central to my work. The resulting sculptures and installations can be described as monuments in reverse, silent witnesses to the passing of time that act against the very idea of permanence. In particular, my work deconstructs the idea and empties out the function of the monument by transforming it into a memorial to absence, thereby suggesting an understanding of history as a series of erasures.’
